In the quiet town of Fall River, Massachusetts, a Somerset man found himself in a harrowing situation as he appeared in court on Monday for allegedly attempting to lure two teenage girls into his car. The man in question, 60-year-old Michael Nutbrown, faced serious accusations from the Swansea police department, but his defense attorney and family members maintain that there has been a grave misunderstanding.

The events unfolded last Thursday as the two 13-year-old girls were walking home from school along Milford Road. The girls recounted feeling uncomfortable when they noticed Nutbrown driving past them and giving them an unsettling look. Surveillance footage captured Nutbrown pulling into the Target parking lot shortly after, where he was seen moving items from inside his car to the trunk, suggesting he was preparing to offer the girls a ride.

According to the Swansea police department, Nutbrown then approached the teenagers and asked if they needed a ride. Sensing danger, the girls promptly ran away and dialed 911 for assistance. Subsequently, Nutbrown was apprehended and charged with attempted kidnapping. Prosecutors revealed in court that after the encounter, Nutbrown drove to Walmart, where police were able to identify him as the suspect through his transaction records.

However, Nutbrown’s defense team vehemently refuted the allegations, contending that their client had acted out of concern for the girls’ safety. His attorney argued that Nutbrown had approached the girls after witnessing a close call with another vehicle, simply checking to see if they were unharmed. Despite these claims, Nutbrown’s bail was set at $1,000 cash, and he was ordered to steer clear of the alleged victims. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.

Support for Nutbrown was visibly present in the courtroom, with several family members rallying behind him. One woman named Sara, speaking on behalf of the family, adamantly rejected the accusations against Nutbrown, citing his close relationships with his nieces and nephews as evidence of his gentle nature. She dismissed the claims as “absurd lies” and expressed unwavering support for Nutbrown in the face of adversity.

As the legal proceedings continue, the community remains divided over the true nature of the events that transpired on that fateful day. With conflicting accounts and steadfast defense from Nutbrown’s circle, the case raises important questions about the perception of innocence and the complexities of criminal accusations. Nutbrown’s fate hangs in the balance as the justice system navigates the intricate details of this troubling case. Stay tuned for more updates as the story unfolds.
